A Plaint

A Plaint

by Christopher Norris

You’re a bit of a dud, Mr Starmer,
And you’re letting us down, I fear.
No, we’re not looking out for a charmer,
Or a fun guy to tickle our ear,
Or a home-grown Barack Obama,
Or a BoJo to bring us fake cheer.
For we’ll happily skip the high drama
With you as a cut-price King Lear
If you’ll just dump the old psychic armour,
Set the pace and not bring up the rear.
Else you’ll find it’s the wrong sort of karma,
Not Hardie’s, that dubbed you ‘Sir Keir’.
