To celebrate 10 years’ work by Culture Matters, we’ve put together an anthology of all the books we’ve published. Here you will find samples of beautifully written poetry and prose, extracts from around 100 books by working-class women and men on a wide range of compelling issues, past and present— work, war, inequality, poverty, austerity, climate change, solidarity, hope and resilience.
Building Jerusalem: A Culture Matters Sampler 2016/2026, ISBN 978-1-912710-89-8, £15.
Our mission is to help ‘build Jerusalem’ through promoting cultural democracy—culture for the many, not the few – not only in England, but throughout the world.
One of the ways we fulfil that mission is by publishing many lesser-known working-class writers of poetry and prose. So here are representative excerpts from the 100 books that we’ve published, selected by the poet Alan Morrison. All of the writing is distinguished by emotional vividness, intellectual ambition, and skilful literary technique.
We hope you enjoy this sampler of our books, which are available from the Culture Matters website.
