In the last few years, ‘snollygosters’— malignant, unprincipled persons like Donald Trump, Keir Starmer, and Benjamin Netanyahu—have dragged national and international politics into the mire of illegal wars, genocide, systematic
and deliberate lies and deceit. Naked violence by the state is deployed on the streets of Gaza, Caracas, Minneapolis and Tehran—all to prop up empires of political and economic oppression, an international capitalist system of
exploitation of the poor and powerless by the rich and powerful.
In the UK, we have faced and are facing high levels of child poverty, a rising cost of living, public-spending cutbacks, communal devastation, and a foreign policy of active complicity in Israel’s genocide in Palestine, accompanied by
a draconian repression of dissenting views at home. All this has been accompanied by servility and cowardice towards the semi-imbecile, malignant and deeply fascistic Donald Trump.
These iniquities are the subject of Norris’s savage, Swiftian indignation, illustrated by Martin Gollan’s satirical drawings.
