Starmer’s empty promises of renewal

Keir Starmer says the nation has
a battle for its soul.
There’s two opposing absolutes
competing for control.
This moment of decision
is a war we dare not lose:
Decency or Division?
Which one will we choose?
The benefit cap’s mean-spirited
puts families in debt
and Labour’s going to scrap it
but maybe not just yet.
A widening chasm’s opening
between the rich and poor
and top of their agenda is
to help the rich make more.
Reform will send back migrants
those folk they love to hate
and Labour will deport them too,
but at a slower rate.
They focus on the carers.
Result? Not hard to guess
as cruelty to workers
divides the NHS.
Protesters over Gaza
are classed as terrorist.
The need for civil liberties
is something that gets missed.
While prisoners of conscience
are hoping for release
this Labour government’s giving
more power to the police.
Some parties are inclusive
and some admit to doubt
but Labour’s hard as nails; they’re keen
on throwing members out.
“Decent” ’s an aspiration,
division is a crime
but it’s division Labour choose
every bloody time.
