Raise a flag, found a country
On someone else’s land,
Wait a while, then expand:
Pick a village, attack at dawn,
Spare no-one, make no secret
Of what you have done
Force the next tribe on your list
To sign a treaty
That you can tear up later on,
Move settlers in, create a myth
Of how the west is being won,
Claim those who fight back
Are savages who behead babies,
Gang rape white virgins
And kill hostages for fun,
Starve them
Into shrinking Reservations,
Compare yourselves to Israelites
Settling Canaan: fast forward
Several centuries, raise a flag
Found a country on someone
Else’s land, wait a while,
Then expand: pick a village,
Block of flats, school, hospital,
Bomb it flat, make no secret
Of what you have done,
Impose a treaty
“Think of your children…”
That you can tear up later on,
Move settlers in,
Create a myth that those
Who resist are savages
Baby killers, rapists,
That kill hostages for fun,
Starve them into shrinking enclaves,
Compare yourselves to former slaves
Settling Canaan.
