Bombs and Banalities

Bombs and Banalities

By Nick Moss

The war against Iran will be waged with
Bombs and banalities.
Operation Lion’s War
Turns “Women, Life, Freedom”
Into 150 dead in a bombed-out girls’ school in Minab,
And those who brought you Kermit’s coup
In 1953 tell you to throw off your shackles
In the name of liberty, while Hegseth
Tells the press pack
This is not a democracy-building exercise;
They are not killing you
To set you free.

Tomahawk cruise missiles, B2 stealth-bombers,
Anthropic targeting, and banalities about
Liberation. All hail Operation Epic Fury.
Freedom reduced to the freedom to see
SAVAK replaced by the Revolutionary Guard Corps
And the basij, to then be replaced by goons
Hand-picked by Mossad and the CIA
So that the promise of ’79, of the oil strikes
And shoras becomes the liberty to choose
Whose bullets will cut down the crowds
In the street.

Still, it should run well in the mid-terms,
Thinks Princeton Pete, the Christian Zionist
Opponent of theocracy who promises
“We won’t waste time or lives”
But means we won’t waste our own.
And Queen’s County Donald‘s
Fat orange neck is turning Virginia red;
Pallagra from the burger diet
Or the fish rotting from its head?

Their plan is to keep us backward, to keep us in our present miserable state so they can exploit our riches, our underground wealth, our lands, and our human resources. They want us to remain afflicted and wretched, and our poor to be trapped in their misery. – Islamic Government: Ayatullah Ruhullah al-Musawi al-Khomeini (1970)
