Respite

by Wayne Dean-Richards

I watch an episode of the original Star Trek TV
series, followed immediately by an episode of
Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?
followed immediately by an episode of
The Champions – one after the other,
boom, boom, boom, just like that.

the newest of these shows is fifty years old!
does that mean I’m on the run, in hiding, this a
manifestation of a full-blown retreat?

I bloody hope not!
hope it’s just a pause,
before battling on
a brief respite
to gather strength from a time before
Thatcher and her madness
gained such a fucking grip!
