The clip of him on the Six O’ Clock News dancing,
dancing with as much rhythm
as the dinosaur he is, has to make us
question our unholy addiction.
The voice on the News clip was predictably
one of homage to the addiction, no hint
of criticism at the obscenity of the payout,
making the dinosaur the world’s first trillionaire.
No parallel commentary on the world’s hungry
or dispossessed, those fleeing war or climate
breakdown, or both, and no link made
between his wealth and the poverty of the poor.
One day children in schools across the world
will watch this clip to our addiction, they will
as one look back at the folly of such times,
reminiscent of the days of Pharaohs and Emperors.
They will thank their parents for getting rid
of the dinosaurs and their addiction to money,
their indifference to the suffering of others,
their love only to the media men who praised them
And put them in place. The children will cheer
when the teachers change the clip to the one
where the dinosaurs are sent into space in one
of their own rockets, leaving us all in peace.
