You threw out The Red Flag & Jerusalem
For the Union Jack & God Save The King
& a Party that didn’t stand for anything,
You sold socialism for cheap patriotism,
Trampled the Red Rose but its thorns remained
Nettling your side until your undoing;
Your lasting legacy was weaponising
Anti-Semitism to “shake off the fleas”
Of pro-Palestinian members & MPs—
Not least your one time “friend” Jeremy Corbyn—
& generally alienating the left wing,
Silencing criticism of the Israeli regime
Even while genocide was being live streamed
In which you were materially complicit
Providing spy flights, plane parts, shielding Elbit,
A “Zionist without qualification” as you put it,
Proscribing a protest group as terrorists,
& their supporters, thousands of peaceful
Citizens—pensioners, priests, Holocaust
Survivors included—arrested for voicing
Their consciences with up to 14 years prison
Sentences; you offered no diplomatic
Protection to British humanitarians
Of the Freedom Flotilla captured & tortured,
Made to kneel, bow heads, with zip-tied wrists,
Abused & humiliated, but tried all you could
To get the ban on Islamophobic Maccabi fans
Reversed & have them rampaging among
Muslim communities in Birmingham—
All the way you did your best without fail
To serve the country that you loved: Israel.
