Trump’s war is deep-dyed criminal,
given the number of innocents dead;
but hell! it ain’t half holy, some may think,
given the number of supportive prayers said.
Those who fail to defy the war-monger
are themselves guilty of unlawful killing;
who collude with the lunatic in office
are themselves mad;
who applaud his tearing-up of laws
that protect life are themselves law-breakers;
who mock the courageous efforts of the good
are themselves plain bad.
How long before the balance tips,
and a politics that neuters Trump swings back?
Blessed are those who mourn.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after justice.
Blessed are those who work for peace.
If you pray, when next you pray,
consider the following form of words,
or similar ones of your own composing:
Our Donald, whom we disown,
occupant of the White House,
we hate your name.
May your time in high office
be brought to a swift end.
May your authority be defied.
Give us today news of your going.
May you never be forgiven.
May we never again give credence
or assent to leaders of your evil kind,
or cede to them the power and the glory
that you have gained.
Amen.
