Dear People

Dear People

If the rich need riches to sustain them
it stands to reason, the poor require
poverty as inspiration. The Chancellor

understands this instinctively. She
does not need to read a book or think
a thought to prove it. It’s the truth

Compulsion is necessity, arithmetical
like counting sheep at bedtime, cows
into the abattoir. Where do you think

sausages originate? Pigs don’t fly
It’s at the heart of her philosophy
If you deserved a decent place to live

you’d have earned it by your labour
The market cannot rely on falsehoods
magic numbers, kindness. Accept
the consequences of your indolence

You deserve this
