Capitalism
Is coming for you. It’s in your rent
And wages. The price of your essentials.
Energy. Advertisements. The things
You see on television. In the bedroom
And your rivers. Amongst the atoms
And electrons. Weetabix and Cornflakes
Capitalism
Is murder, toothache. Haemorrhoids.
Every war you never heard of. Hunger
And Anxiety. Why no one seems to love
You. Why your football team is useless.
The temperature and weather. The road
To Armageddon.
Capitalism
Made Fentanyl. Took away your blanket.
Made billionaires out of sociopaths,
Madmen into presidents. Capitalism
Gave you lotteries. Winners, losers.
Wholesome entertainment. Monsters
In the forest. It was
Capitalism
In the fairytales. The evil,
Scheming stepmother. A moral
Misconception based on wealth
and power. Expression without meaning.
The massacres. The never-ending wait
For something good to happen. It is
Capitalism
That makes us stupid. Frightened.
But it’s not too late to change it.
