Refugees Forever – Palestine Nakba, 1948. Image: Wikicommons

The soldier in full camouflage
Helmet, face-covering and gun,
Poking the man with it like a bayonet.
This is the Nakba
Over and over again –
Doing the settlers’ business.
Stepping forward in protest
The barrel’s in his face
And all words are pointless.
With each shove she’s yelling –
‘This is our land, Greater Israel, our destiny!’
He’s forced back towards the desert.
Her shouts shred deeds & laws
Which blow into the distance
Decimated into small grains.
The dusty, arid ground
He retreats to can never be home.
Even to his cave, they’ll come.
