I read Poppy Coburn in the Telegraph,
Saying Perhaps you’ve seen it
On a news segment on television
About a transgender rights march,
where every other attendee appears
to be supported by a walking stick. (1)
Poppy wanted me to know that
Having a disability is cool.
Took myself down to the railway tracks,
Lay my feet across the rails
And waited to be cool.
I got PTSD, no legs below the knee
And £840 a month, but I sure am cool.
Now they’re queuing up to take that away.
Reform, IDS, Bad Enoch and Milburn
Want to make me rise up and work again.
Perhaps you’ve seen it
On a news segment on television
About a Burger King or Sainsburys,
Where every other worker appears
To be supported by crutches or a stick.
And the sight of a disability makes politicians cruel.
To be kind, obvs.
Using just the right measures
To make poverty not just a hell
But a maximum wage.
From cradle to grave join the welfare hate.
The self-employed plumber hates
The low-waged hate
The crips hate
The asylum seekers….well…..they just drown –
And you can go online and laugh about that,
While Paul Marshall’s laughing all the way to his Cayman bank
And I was crazed in this landscape of lies.
Took myself down to the railway tracks,
Lay my head across the rails
And waited to feel real.
