Waiting for Green

Green Party leaflet

By Frankie Tibbles

I waited for the man to change
From red
To green.

Once it changed, I could cross safely.
Traffic paused and dangers ceased.
I walked across the road.

When I got to the other side
I could walk with pace
and heard people talking, an amalgam
of languages, people laughing, people asking
for direction, people giving directions,
laughter through a loudspeaker walking
parallel to my ears.

It was one long path that led to a heart
that beat – the rhythm we all have
in the fabric of our being.
