Burning Books

Burning Books

9 October 2018 /Posted byDoug Nicholls

There will be a performance of “Burning Books” at Quorn Grange Hotel, Loughborough, Leics., on 23rd November. Jess Green’s most recent story of protest, teaching and what is happening in today’s schools has struck a chord with many, and we hope that you are able to come along.

Ask yourself, what should schools do when they are losing so many teachers?

On Teach First student Kat’s first day at Hurstville Community College, Nicky Morgan announces forced academisation for all state schools. Kat is ready for the picket line but her attempts to join the NUT are met with contempt by union stalwart Janine. The head teacher is invisible and the staff are more concerned about losing their staff room, disappearing books and a History teacher who hasn’t been seen for weeks.

A powerful and humorous look at an education system buckling under government cuts and targets. A story of protest and the teachers who choose to fight back.

“Brilliant. Her words have certainly struck a chord with teachers” – Huffington Post

“A play that will ring true for every teacher in the country!” – National Union Teachers

DN play 2

The performace begins at 7:00pm and tickets for the event are available online from here.

There are a number of other performances in the tour and the details of the full tour are shown above, a range of attractive merchandise will be available at performances, including books (£10), T-shirts (£10), CDs (£5), and bags (£5).

Further information regarding the event is available from ianr@gftu.org.uk or by calling 01509 410970.
