Unite Ireland
By Bernadette Gallagher
I believe the six counties could be up for sale,
on special offer at the moment, as the UK
is drowning under the weight of small boats
and bad decisions over the past 14 years or so.
They could save around 15 billion p.a., give or take,
in exchequer savings if we, the Irish, take it off their hands.
That might make the upcoming budget a bit more palatable,
wouldn’t require tax increases on the rich and cutting the poor.
It’s on the bottom shelf, near the pick ‘n mix,
close to the Unionist agreement. We should buy it
quick while we still have the cash rolling in from the
multi-nationals. Right before Trump tariffs us back
to a place we’re more used to – struggling.
As a cousin of mine in San Francisco said, after our
last tiger ran away and left us:
‘The Irish were never used to having anything anyway’.
He being a descendant of one of the many who left for a better life,
it felt like an order to get back in the ‘poor box’.
Cheek of us to get rich again after 2008 when the troika
rolled into town with a truck full of money and shame.
Anyway, back to the 6 counties, what do you think?
I believe we could have had it for free about a hundred
years or so ago, but they shafted Michael Collins and he
got a bullet for his trouble when he landed home and sher
it might’ve caused a war, but that’s what we got anyway.
Two of them in fact, one civil (although I’ve never found anything
particularly civil about war, pretty uncivilised events really)
and the other a bit of ‘Trouble’ because death and bloodshed
don’t make for a war!
Is that smugness I see there around Ireland’s Eye?
