Graffiti for the freedom of Marwan Barghouti, a jailed political activist from Fatah. Commons image by Justin Giovannetti

Marwan Barghouti – don’t call him a man:
we will erase him, let him rot in jail
and banish hope. I hate, therefore I am.
I nicked myself while shaving and blood ran –
I, Mileikowsky, felt my face go pale.
Marwan Barghouti – don’t call him a man.
These heathens, Lord, are pimples in the sand.
By Benzion who begat me we’ll prevail,
expunge the filth. I hate, therefore I am.
With sword or gun we’ll clear the Promised Land
as it is written, free of infidels.
Marwan Barghouti – don’t call him a man.
We’ll torture him and taunt him all we can,
show Moses’ sacred soil is Israel,
not Palestine. I hate, therefore I am.
He’s treasured like a Gaza caravan
and though he’s absent, his name is regaled:
Marwan Barghouti – maybe he’s a man…
and if we let him walk free, then I am.
