It’s a universal truth that we should have low expectations
of those who climb the greasy pole to lead our island nation,
but one man’s breaking all the records, he’s in a pointless league of one
disappointment’s distillation at its worst – bar none.
Because however low you set the bar, he’ll slither underneath.

As Israel slaughters Palestinians, he’s along there for the ride,
if pressed, declares that it’s intolerable, but won’t call it genocide
because that makes him complicit and it leads him to The Hague
so he takes the moral quicksand, sounds concerned, evasive, vague.
Yes, however low you set the bar, he’ll slither underneath.

The spy flights keep on flying, he still keeps sending arms.
We still train Israeli soldiers, though social media shows the harm
they take delight in causing the war crimes that they commit
which he calls ‘a right to self-defence’ when we all know that isn’t it.

It’s said he once had principles, but they were surgically removed.
Has he been bought? Or sold? Or blackmailed? Do his sponsors disapprove?
He sees starvation used as weapon, and decides to nod it through
provides cover for the murderers, whatever they may do.

If he sleeps, may it be badly. Nights spent twitching, tossing, turning.
May his nightmares be of folk in tents, who he had a hand in burning.
May he never know a moment’s peace. May his food all taste of ashes.
May he stand in court, condemned by all, for supporting ethno-fascists.
