From the kitchen television
we follow the drone of the latest missiles
a mere few miles away.
They are not targeting a nation nor
the utter food of a man’s dearest religion.
They aim to wound the bowel of the will,
shadow well the daylight that stays
regnant in our erstwhile day.
And whatever welts may have their way
we will recover from the burden
as we always have, wake from the weight of these daft white feathers
in the hats of a madman or of two.
There is no seizing truth
at the last in the terrors of such dreadful puppetry.
