Don’t let the pain drag on.
I’m sure you’ll feel intense relief
once you at last are gone.
A million voices tell you, Go!
It isn’t only me
that says, what in your heart you know,
Stand down with dignity.
A better man preceded you;
you gave him endless grief,
said vicious things, and all untrue
of him. Stand down, Sir Keith.
The sundial shifts, the screen goes blank.
Bow out. Pass on the crown.
There’s none but you yourself to thank.
Stand down, Sir Keith, stand down!
